Kedarnath temple opens for pilgrims on Thursday.
The Kedarnath temple opens amid chanting of Vedic hymns and religious rituals. Every year thousands of pilgrims visit the Kedarnath temple during the pilgrimage and the Char Dham Yatra.
The gates of the temple decorated with flowers opened at 6.15 am in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district today after a six-month-long winter break. The idol of Lord Shiva which had been moved to his winter abode of Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath was transferred on a palanquin from its winter seat on Tuesday, and reached Kedarnath.
While Kedarnath Dham remains closed for six months, and the presiding deity is shifted to Ukhimath, the Kedarnath Dham temple remains lighted up from the inside with the help of an eternal flame or Akhand Jyoti which miraculously does not extinguish.
Amid chanting of vedic hymns and religious rituals, Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya along with hundreds of pilgrims visited the temple and offered prayers.
