In Colombo, Sri Lanka around 300 died and more than 500 were injured including children. Colombo, Sri Lanka witnessed 8 bomb blasts in churches and hotels so far.
Three churches and three hotels targeted were:
1. St Anthony’s Church in Colombo
2. St Sebastian’s Church in the western coastal town of Negombo
3. A church in the eastern town of Batticaloa
4. The Shangrila
5. The Cinnamon Grand
6. The Kingsbury
Easter celebrations had begun in churches and Easter breakfast celebrations were underway in the three hotels the explosions occurred.
Curfew was declared with paramilitary forces taking charge of the capital. Social media was banned for few hours in the nation for stopping any false news circulation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the blast and said that there was “no place for such barbarism in our region”. He added, “India stands in solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka. My thoughts are with the bereaved families and prayers with the injured.”
