The Indian team will debut its new orange and blue “away” jersey for the World Cup match against England at Edgbaston on Sunday.
India, according to International Cricket Council regulations, will wear their away kit on Sunday. Since both England and India wear blue colour jerseys. As England is hosting the match it is an away game for Indian team.
“The ODI and Away Kit designs launched this year are inspired by the young new generation of India and the fearless spirit of the national teams,” India’s official kit manufacturers, Nike said in a statement.
However, the Indian cricket team’s alternative World Cup jersey, which has an overdose of orange or saffron, has generated controversy. Some Congressmen and a Samajwadi Party MP commented on it. They commented that it is the beginning of saffronisation of cricket. They also remarked that the Tricolour should instead be used as the colour scheme for the ‘away game’ jersey.
